Cars in Germany's Town Found Covered with Swastikas in Blood, Police Report

Authorities stated they were alerted by a man who found a automobile in Hanau marked with reddish fluid

Around 50 cars have been marked with what seems to be blood from a person in the Germany's city of Hanau close to Frankfurt, as reported by police.

Cars, building surfaces and mailboxes were marked, in some cases with swastikas, they stated in a official communication.

Police report they were notified during the night on Wednesday evening, when a resident discovered that a car in the Lamboy district of Hanau had been smeared with a reddish fluid.

The fluid had been placed in the shape of a banned symbol, they reported.

Police then discovered multiple other vandalized cars and building exteriors in the surrounding area.

Nazi symbols are prohibited in Germany under laws banning the visible presentation of Nazi symbols.

Officials say preliminary tests suggest the fluid was likely human blood.

"Currently there is no lead as to its source; investigators are not yet cognizant of any harm in connection with the incident," they added.

Local authorities stated they were working "to solve the mystery" and have appealed to the community for details.

A senior official commented the vandalism rendered him without words and needed to be addressed promptly.

"This event hits the very heart of Hanau and reawakens the wounds of the right-wing attack five years ago," he wrote on social media, recalling the death of nine individuals by a gunman aiming at people of foreign heritage in 2020.
