From the very beginning of the fourth campaign, fresh DM the talented storyteller has maintained audience suspense with rich lore, a diverse cast of personalities, and a exciting storyline including celestial beings, demons, and dark forces increasing in influence within the city.
Note: Key plot points for Episode 3 of the new season follow below.
The Soldiers Table Revealed
The third episode concluded with a major cliffhanger and introduced the first table of heroes who will split off from the primary party to embark on their own adventure, separate from the additional parties.
The combat-focused team consists of the determined fighter (portrayed by Travis Willingham), the nimble rogue (the talented performer), the fierce warrior (the cast member), Wicander Halovar (Sam Riegel), and the mysterious adventurer (Robbie).
Dividing the Cast
Considering a large ensemble, it was evident from the beginning that maintaining everyone at the same party would be impossible.
That’s why, the initial installments of Campaign 4 serve as an Introduction, connecting the individual narratives before splitting into three smaller tables: Fighters, Planners, and Questers.
Characteristics of the Warrior Group
Per the Dungeon Master, the combat-focused party is for adventurers who are drawn to a classically intense combat and conflict-driven gameplay experience where non-violent answers are few and far between.
Upon first impression, figures such as the squeamish cleric the cleric might appear unsuited, but the events of episode 3 demonstrate why these five characters are best suited for the combat party.
Reasons to Leave
To begin with, the team has a clear idea where to go next after a intense initial meeting with the antagonists.
A former ally of Thjazi Fang—whose passing initiated the campaign’s events—used The Crow Keepers for his selfish purposes, invading the secret base, striking the character, and swiping all the powerful objects to dispose of.
Casimir then settled his obligations and escaped to a Halovar stronghouse in the remote area, north of the urban center, with Cyd pursuing him.
Personal Motivations
Additionally, each character has a personal reason to leave the city the metropolitan area:
- The rogue, as the close ally and best friend, desires retribution.
- Kattigan is familiar with the northern area and warns that it is a hostile location.
- The strong character and The healer, having disobeyed his relatives’ demands to eliminate the target and instead saved him, have no safe haven.
- Yet, their position as key figures in the influential clan could assist the party access places they normally couldn’t.
- Additionally, The fighter vowed a life debt to The cleric for his deliverance and will now accompany him everywhere.
Pursued by Authorities
Finally, all of them are hunted by the rulers that govern Dol-Makjar for a variety of reasons, making remaining behind dangerous:
- Thimble and The hero are recognized lawbreakers.
- The warrior and Wicander turned against House Halovar and the legion of demons they are aligned with.
- The target is marked for death by the clan.
This means them little choice but to head to the remote area in quest for the traitor.
